15 million Euros annually added to the budget for the arts 2021-2024
On budget day, Prinsjesdag, 15 September, the cabinet announced that for the next four years it will be adding 15 million Euros per year to the budget for the arts. The additional funding, 60 million in total for 2021 – 2024, is earmarked for those applicants for four-year FPK subsidies that received a positive advice, but couldn’t be granted due to insufficient funding.
The 15 million Euros will go to 71 organizations that were left empty-handed after the FPK’s last four-year subsidy round. As part of the second support package for Covid-19, 14 million Euros were made available to support these companies until June 2021. With the structural addition announced on budget day, these companies will be subidized for four years.
At the request of the minister Van Engelshoven, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and two other organizations have been added to the Culturele Basisinfrastructuur, the BIS, which is funded directly by the ministry. The minister has raised the subsidy for the dance chapter.
Six provinces (Zeeland, Flevoland, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel and Limburg) will jointly receive two million Euros per year to reinforce the cultural infrastructure outside the Randstad area. These funds have been made available in response to the discussion in the run-up to Prinsjesdag about the geographical spread of the budget.
The FPK will be responsible for the dividing of the budget between the 71 organizations.
