Hans van Manen Gala at Ballett am Rhein
The Ballett am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Germany, is hosting a gala in honour of Hans van Manen on Saturday 6 November. The Gala celebrates Van Manen’s golden anniversary.
50 years ago, Hans van Manen made his first ballet outside of the Netherlands, for what is now the Ballet am Rhein. The work was named Keep Going, which in hindsight is an apt tagline for the choreographer’s long and successful career.
Over the past 50 years, 22 of his choreographies – totalling 150 to date – have been presented on the stages at Opernhaus Düsseldorf and Theater Duisburg. In recognition of this extraordinary relationship, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein will be awarding Van Manen an honorary membership of the company.
The Ballett am Rhein will be offering a retrospective of the magic of Hans van Manen’s work through a selection of his ballets. Dutch National Ballet dancers Maia Makhateli and Remi Wörtmeyer will be dancing Two pieces for HET.
